Carrier, Bryant, Payne and Day and Night furnace and air conditioning comparison
You might be surprised to know that Carrier, Bryant, Payne, and Day and Night furnaces and air conditioners are almost identical products produced from the same manufacturer. Similar to how GM builds the Chevy and the GMC pickup truck. Everything in the drive train is the same and the minor differences are only simple trim changes. Ford and Mercury is another example; again with only some trim changes.
United Technologies does a similar thing when they produce Carrier, Bryant, Payne and Day/Night.
A side by side comparison reveals that everything except the paint job and perhaps some minor cabinet trim is identical. Although some of the high end Carrier and Bryant furnaces and air conditioners have some features not available on the Payne and Day and Night product lines. This is just branding and many companies do the same thing in order to have a larger market share and dealer base.
Having installed and worked on each of these brands for 30 years I conclude that they’re all decent products and have definitely been around a very long time. Moreover, the single most important detail about installing one of these products in your home or office is the installing contractor. With the economy being the way it is many folks with little to no experience and barely a license (if at all) are ‘slamming’ these products into the homes of unsuspecting consumers for ridiculously low prices. We all know it doesn’t take a Rocket Scientist to install a furnace, but believe it or not there are some key things that should be addressed if you want a safe and reliable system.
CHECK LICENSES! And don’t be fooled by the salesman telling you that they’ve been in business for 50 years and are licensed. Maybe the company is because some 80 year old man has held a license for years and gets paid to sponsor the company. Check the experience and licensing of the INSTALLER. I think you’ll be surprised.
